Apparently Recovery Weeks Make Me a Little Goofy . . .

So goofy, in fact, that I went ahead and signed myself up for the Walt Disney World Goofy's "Race and a Half" Challenge from January 9-10, 2010. What, you might ask, is the Goofy Challenge? Why, you race the half- and full marathons back-to-back; as in the half-marathon on Saturday, followed by the full marathon on Sunday. Piece of cake, right? RIGHT?! Oh crappers . . . What have I gotten myself into?!

You see, Wilson had been talking about running the marathon there for decades, and when he went so far as to actually REGISTER (gulp), I figured I had to one up him. I kid, I kid--my logic was flawed, but not THAT flawed. The truth is that the lure of THREE medals and THREE race shirts was just too much for me to handle (this, despite the fact that the hefty registration fee might just cause me to file for bankruptcy)! I mean, why run one or the other and come away with just ONE medal? If you run two, you come away with THREE of them! What a DEAL! So um . . . yeah. Looks like I'll be doing lots of running in the next 6 months or so!

In other news, I also signed on to run the Ragnar Relay Del Sol with a bunch of running bloggers (and Wilson too!) in late February! The race starts in Prescott, AZ and finishes in Mesa, AZ, with 12 runners each covering 3 legs of 3-8 miles over a period of about 24 hours. I've heard AWESOME things about these types of relays--so I'm SUPER EXCITED (and super grateful to Chris for pulling the whole thing together)!

Other than that, I've just been taking it nice and easy, taking a little time to recover before jumping into training for Chicago. I ran a super easy 7.5-8 mile run (somewhere around there--Gertie was left at home due to a dead battery) on Sunday and an easy 5.5-ish miler tonight (I was all zen runner again like whoa!).

Oh, and Wilson and I went out and bought tennis rackets over the weekend, so we've been embarrassing ourselves out on the courts whenever we can get a free court. I'd forgotten how much fun it is!

I think that's all I have for now . . . hope you all are having a super week! :)

I had heard of the Goofy challenge. It sounds like So much fun! Enjoy the preparations. The run will be fun.

The race shirt- and medal-chase is a healthy sign of being a dedicated runner ;-) Some people need electronic gadgets, runners need race shirts (oh yeah, and a garmin)

The Goofy Challenge sounds AWESOME. You might actually be a little crazy.

Ragnar is going to be so much fun. Is Wilson our 12th runner? I am really looking forward to it. I need to decide on a Dec or Jan marathon so I don't completely obsess about Ragnar. :-)

I've really wanted to do the Goofy Challenge for a while. Of course, I only heard of it a few months ago, so "a while" in my case is not all that long. That said, I'm excited that you signed up for it! I'm also excited that you signed up for Ragnar! Yay!! And I'd also like to express my appreciation toward the fact that you spelled 'whoa' correctly. I am so tired of seeing it spelled 'woah'.

I did Goofy in 2008 and it was a blast - until the heat did me in at mile 20 of the full. Well worth it though.

Holy schnitzel - You're a badass! I look forward to reading all about it. I lived in Fla for 26 years prior to moving and have never heard of the event. Sounds very cool though. :)

My friend signed up for the Goofy Challenge. She tried to convince me to do it, but I'm just having a hard time committing to things far off in the future right now! :-)

Ragnar should be awesome. Whether I run it or not, I'll be there! Wouldn't miss this big blogger meet-up for anything!

If I hadn't already done Disney I'd do the Goofy challenge in a heartbeat. It's totally true: if you're going to train a lot any way and pay for a trip to Disney, might as well come away with a box load of hardware (those Disney metals are sweeeeeet).

Good luck!
