More Bad Luck

Bummer of all bummers. I almost forgot to share my bad news with you all. About a week ago, I threw my name into the lottery for the NYC Half-Marathon Presented by Nike on July 27, 2008. The verdict?

Entry Number: 300930
Accepted?: NO
Age: F26
City: BROOKLYN
Province:
Country of Residency: UNITED STATES

Sadness. This race was going to work out quite nicely with my Chicago Marathon training schedule. Oh well. Wilson had far better luck than I (perhaps it's beginner's luck?), and so I will be cheering him on that day instead of running. But seriously, I'm thinking about changing my name here . . . you'd think I'd get at least a little bit of the "luck of the Irish," but so far, I've gotten the complete opposite!

As I really do love half-marathons, I was thinking about signing up for this race in August:

It's a trail run, which I've never done before . . . and I'm assuming it would probably kick my ass, but I'm having trouble finding any additional info to prove it. The registration fee is only $20, though, and it would be kind of a fun mini-vacation. Has anyone out there run any of the XTerra trail run series races? I'm just curious how crazy-difficult they tend to be . . . I'd prefer to not absolutely kill myself a month before Chicago! Anyway, I've got some time to think it over, so we'll see. In the meantime, let me know your thoughts on trail racing :)

I don't know anything about the race, but I've been to Mohonk a bunch (I grew up not too far from there) and I could see that race being really tough! I guess it depends on how they design the course. If you do it, you'll love the scenery!
Here's are the preserve sites: http://www.mohonkpreserve.org/index.php?visit

Also if you're going to be in the area check out Lake Minnewaska: http://www.lakeminnewaska.org
I'll be in the area right before that. Too bad I'm flying out a couple days prior or else I'd be tempted to run it too!

I've never done trail running before, but I signed up for a summer weekend trail running camp for adults in the Adirondacks. It's only about $250 for four days - not a bad deal!

Go for it!! I think trail racing sounds like a lot of fun but I'm kinda clumsy so I probably won't attempt it for a while. ;)

I haven't got the courage up for trails yet, but I do want to run the NYC. I tried last year. We were there on vacation at the time. When I found out I couldn't get in I pretty much quit running for about six months!
